World Prematurity Day - November 17th
Across the world, November 17th is a special day for millions of people. World Prematurity Day is the day we speak up for those who are too little and too sick to do so themselves. It is when we come together to raise awareness about the devastating effects of preterm birth for all of the mothers, babies and families who have to live with prematurity, not just on November 17th, but for the rest of their lives.
Premature birth is the leading cause of death in children under the age of five. Babies born too early may have more long term health issues than babies that are born at term. World Prematurity Day draws attention to the life-saving research, treatments and support from around the world to ensure every child’s first day on earth is not their hardest, and they have the chance to fulfil their potential.
