Mei Li Powell
Chief Operating Officer
Mei Li is Borne’s Chief Operating Officer accountable to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. She is responsible for the financial health and management of Borne, ensuring operational delivery to the highest standards in line with its values and mission. Mei Li is also responsible for coordinating a proactive programme of income generation, managing fundraising and donor relationships, and overseeing associated donor stewardship programmes as Borne charts a course for growth.
Before joining Borne in May 2017, Mei Li held senior roles in banking and wealth management for 27 years at Citigroup, Euroclear and RBS where she led and developed global teams as Chief Marketing Officer, Business Development Director and Managing Director of Corporate Communications, Investor Relations and Marketing. She brings a complementary set of skills and experience to Borne providing operational leadership to ensure the success of Borne’s strategies, plans and research programmes.
Philanthropy & Supporter Engagement
Since 2019, Alessandra has been leading the Philanthropic Engagement of Borne’s major donors, identifying and cultivating potential relationship with a wide range of high net worth individuals supporters and stakeholders to secure long-term financial support for the charity.
Alessandra’s background is in wealth management, where she held senior institutional sales roles in JPMorgan, Aspect Capital and SanPaolo for over 10 years.
She also founded and ran a food retail business in London before diving into the charitable sector. In 2017 she joined The Royal Trinity Hospice as a senior consultant to develop and implement their Corporates and Major Donors fundraising strategy.
Brand & Creative Lead
Merren is responsible for Borne’s messaging and visual identity, including managing digital & social media communications, marketing materials, and in-house graphic design.
Merren joined Borne in 2019, and has experience working in a range of third-sector project management and communications roles, as well as a background in graphic design.
She works on a consultancy basis for Borne, and before joining worked as Programmes Manager & Creative Director at international development charity Walkabout Foundation, managing the charity’s global projects and marketing department.
Finance & Office Management
Celine is our Finance & Office Manager, responsible for the financial, administrative and organisational support to the Chief Operating Officer and Executive team, enabling the effective running of the charity.
Celine worked as a senior member of the Finance team at St Paul’s Cathedral for over 20 years, managing the Fabric grants and finances of four trusts which fundraise for and make grants to the Cathedral, and then took on the role of Finance Manager at Campaign Bootcamp, before joining Borne in May 2020.
Events & Community Fundraising
Heather joined Borne as our Events Producer in 2019, she is responsible for managing Borne’s special events portfolio and has recently taken on the task of growing our community fundraising programme.
Heather brings an understanding of charity practices and relationship fundraising gained from working in charities such as Anthony Nolan, running fundraising events for England Rugby and working on the management of the London Landmarks Half Marathon.
