About the grant

Our small project grants provide funds to develop novel research ideas that, if successful, can provide the foundation for more expansive work focussed on advancing understanding and treatment of spontaneous preterm birth. This grant can cover salaries, equipment and running costs.

Funding avaliable

Borne is committed to ensuring we are investing the donations we receive in the highest quality research projects with the best chance of making a significant contribution to knowledge in the field of preterm birth.

We support fundamental and clinical scientific research that seeks to deepen our knowledge of the biological processes of pregnancy and labour with the over-arching purpose of improving the detection, treatment and prevention of spontaneous preterm birth.

Our funding schemes are designed to support a variety of research activities related to spontaneous preterm birth that address significant knowledge gaps and generate new information, pump prime the study of important questions as a foundation for further research and support the transition of promising early career researchers to independent investigators.

Our strategy is increasingly focussed towards supporting discovery science, therapeutic advances (in pregnancy) and national and international collaboration.

On a case-by-case basis we may consider neonatal follow-up studies as part of the examination of effectiveness of interventions in pregnancy to prevent spontaneous preterm birth.  We do not directly participate in research associated with assisted conception or areas of maternal health that are not directly linked to spontaneous preterm birth.  Childhood follow-up studies are out of scope.  Service delivery research also falls outside our remit.
