The Borne
Collaborative

Together, we are building a global community committed to giving every baby the best possible start in life.

The Borne Collaborative brings together leading scientists, clinicians, and institutions to accelerate progress in understanding and preventing premature birth.

The Borne Collaborative is a unique international network of leading scientists and clinicians working at the forefront of premature birth research. It was established because we recognised that too much research in this field was happening in silos, with limited opportunities for researchers to share ideas, challenge thinking and build on one another’s discoveries.

Each year, members come together to review the latest scientific developments, identify emerging opportunities and shape future research priorities.

This is because, at Borne, we believe the fastest route to preventing premature birth is through open collaboration. Bringing together experts from different disciplines, institutions and countries creates an environment where knowledge is shared, partnerships are formed and scientific progress is accelerated. This collaborative approach is fundamental to how Borne works and is something of which we are immensely proud.

The Collaborative acts as Borne’s scientific ‘North Star’, helping to shape our research strategy and ensuring that the funds we raise are directed towards the most important unanswered questions and the most innovative, cutting-edge research. By drawing on the collective expertise of world-leading researchers, we can be confident that our research priorities remain ambitious, evidence-led and focused on where we can make the greatest difference.

The Borne Collaborative is one of the things that makes our organisation truly unique. By creating a culture of openness, collaboration and shared purpose, we are helping to bring the global research community together around one common goal: finding the answers to premature birth. It is a principle that has shaped Borne since the Collaborative was founded and one that will continue to define our organisation in the years ahead.

“

Previous research has helped identify women at risk of premature birth and improved infant survival, but it still hasn’t been able to find the root cause. A new approach is needed, and Big BUMP is doing just that. Capitalising on major technological advances, which Borne scientists have proven feasible, BUMP will scrutinise the mechanism – cell by cell, that stimulate the uterus to start contracting too early. My expectations are high – Big BUMP provides an unrivalled opportunity to understand premature labour.
